This is a record of the plants growing in and around one house. It is kept for the person who keeps it, who was tired of not knowing what things were called.

Every entry is dated and carries the name it was given, in Latin and in plain speech, along with what it wants by way of light, water and soil, and whether it is safe to have around animals. Where a field is still unknown the table shows a dash rather than hiding the row: what has not been worked out yet is part of the record too.

On certainty

Each entry says how confident its naming is, and the reason sits in the account rather than in a badge.

High. Something about the plant rules out everything else it could be, and the entry says what.

Medium. The name fits everything observed so far, but nothing observed so far excludes a near relative.

Low. A guess, and the entry explains what would settle it. A photograph of the right part of the plant usually would.

A name here is not an authority. It is what one person concluded on one day, written down so the next look can start from somewhere.
